NBA Fast Break Classic | Run 7 | Day 7
Detroit Dominates, Miami Drops OKC, Portland Stuns the Lakers
NBA Recap: January 17, 2026
Yesterday’s nine-game slate delivered a scoring fest — only two teams finished under 100, and ten teams cracked 120+, a mix of blowouts, tight finishes, and a whole lot of offense.
Dallas opened with a 138–120 win over Utah, another night where the Mavericks’ pace and spacing overwhelmed a Jazz team that couldn’t keep up. Boston followed with a 132–106 blowout in Atlanta including a jaw dropping 52 points in the second quarter. Jaylen Brown continued to look like an All-Star as he scored 41 points, but 30 points from Sam Hauser and 12 assists from Derrick White rounded out the wire-to-wire performance.
Detroit delivered the night’s most lopsided result to maintain their first place lead in the East, beating Indiana 121–78 in a game that was effectively over by halftime considering Indiana could only score 25 points total in the first two quarters. The Pistons dictated tempo, dominated the glass, and turned the second half into a formality. Phoenix and New York played one of the tighter matchups, with the Suns escaping 106–99 after a strong second half that finally broke the Knicks’ resistance. Although they saw contributions from Miles McBride, they felt Brunson’s absence.
Miami and Oklahoma City delivered the game of the night, with the Heat edging the Thunder 122–120 in a back‑and‑forth finish that swung on late‑clock execution. After being tied going into the fourth quarter, OKC led by three with a little under two minutes to play. Unfortunately for the Thunder, they would not score another bucket for the remainder of the game and the Heat took full advantage. Andrew Wiggins hit a three-pointer with 31 seconds to go, which turned out to be the game winner to give OKC their eighth loss of the year.
San Antonio followed with a 126–123 win over Minnesota, where the Spurs almost squandered a 25-point half-time lead. Minnesota shrank the lead to 12 after the third quarter and took the lead with a minute to play on a Donte DiVincenzo three-pointer. Wemby would counter with a clutch jump shot. Anthony Edwards hit a step back three-pointer to bring the Timberwolves within one with 11 seconds to play. After missing both free throws, Wemby gathered the miss to seal the win.
Golden State kept its surge alive with a 136–116 win over Charlotte, riding a blistering offensive rhythm that the Hornets never slowed. Denver protected home court with a 121–115 win over Washington, a steady performance where the Nuggets controlled the middle quarters and held off a late Wizards push. Lastly, Portland closed the slate with a 132–116 win over the sputtering Lakers, who have lost five of six including two straight to sub-.500 teams.
Fast Break Recap: Day 6
In Run 6, the Assists minus Turnovers day turned out to be very successful, which is uncommon. Run 7’s edition of Assists minus Turnovers mirrored the historical and only 4% earned a win in Classic mode. Pro mode was better, but still not high as only 43% walked away happy. Historic, however, came through as 89% of collectors earned a win.
If you had LaMelo Ball, Jamal Murray, or SGA as your captain, they are your Fast Break Dud of the Day as each delivered one assist minus turnovers. They each had varying degrees of assists, but they had a parallel number of turnovers. Of the top five, LeBron had the highest with a meager 4 assists minus turnovers - far below what was needed to win the day. Honorable mention goes to Derrick White who had 11 assists minus turnovers, which translated to 17 if he was your captain.
Today’s Fast Break Objective(s): Day 7 of 11
Objective(s): 130 Points Scored (26.0 PTS)
You’ll need five (5) players who will score 130.0 or more points, which means each player needs to average 26.0 PTS. Although this is a straightforward objective, there is plenty of room for players in your lineup to fall short of the required threshold. One player has the ability to derail your day even if the other four outperform. Your captain could very well make or break you today.
