NBA Fast Break Classic | Run 6 | Day 8

Denver Breaks Boston, OKC Survives in OT, Houston Upset in Portland

NBA Recap: January 7, 2026

The big news of the day in addition to the twelve game slate was the completion of a franchise altering trade between Atlanta and Washington as Trae Young was sent to the nation’s capital in exchange for CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert; a move that reshaped two franchises overnight and immediately colored the tone of the evening.

Detroit opened the night with a steady 108–93 win over Chicago, controlling the game with pace and physicality while the Bulls struggled to generate consistent offense. Toronto followed with a narrow 97–96 escape in Charlotte, a game that swung on late defensive stops and just enough shot‑making to quiet the building. In Philadelphia, the Sixers handled Washington 131–110, a matchup that doubled as the Wizards’ last game before the beginning of the Trae era. Washington showed flashes, but Philadelphia’s control of tempo and half‑court execution kept the margin wide.

Denver delivered one of the night’s signature wins, beating Boston 114–110 in a game that felt like a playoff preview. The Nuggets closed with composure, stringing together stops and timely buckets to outlast a Celtics team that had controlled long stretches, which was impressive as they continue to be without Jokic for a few more weeks. Atlanta, on the other hand, beat New Orleans 117–100 behind a balanced offensive rhythm and a defensive effort that tightened as the night wore on.

Orlando and Brooklyn played one of the night’s wildest games, with the Magic escaping 104–103 in overtime after a chaotic final minute. New York delivered a strong response at home, beating the Clippers 123–111 by controlling the second half and keeping L.A.’s offense out of rhythm. Phoenix rolled through Memphis 117–98, a wire‑to‑wire performance where the Suns dictated pace and never let the Grizzlies settle.

Oklahoma City and Utah produced the night’s most dramatic finish, with the Thunder winning 129–125 in overtime to avoid their third straight loss. It was a game defined by swings — Utah’s shot‑making, OKC’s pace, and a final push in the extra period that finally broke the Jazz. San Antonio followed with a 107–91 win over the Lakers, a game where the Spurs’ defensive discipline and steady scoring kept L.A. chasing from the second quarter on.

Golden State held off Milwaukee 120–113, using a strong third quarter to create separation and surviving a late Bucks push. Portland closed the slate with an upset 103–102 win over Houston, a grind‑heavy game that came down to the final possession and ended with the Blazers making just enough plays to protect home court.

Fast Break Recap: Day 7

Yesterday marked the second day in a row where over 80% of Classic Fast Break participants earned a win. Pro saw the lowest win rate at only 17% whereas Historic was closer to the middle with a 66% win rate.

Of the top five players, Jaylen Brown had the biggest night as he sank 14 of 29 field goals. His performance earned him the Fast Break Stud of the Day award. Of the remaining four, only Brunson had less than 10 makes, so by default he is your Fast Break Dud of the Day.

Today’s Fast Break Objective(s): Day 8 of 11

Objective(s): 50 Rebounds (10.0 REB)

You’ll need five (5) players who will accumulate 50.0 or more rebounds, which means each player will need to average 10.0 REB. This will be a sneaky difficult objective as the thresholds are high. Your captain will play a vital role in whether you win or lose today as they’ll likely cover the difference for anyone on your team who doesn’t reach the 10.0 average needed to win the day. With only eight teams in action, it means your options will be the most limited this run.

Top Player Options:.

  • Glass Crashers: Rudy Gobert, Anthony Davis, Bam Adebayo, Kel'el Ware, Moussa Diabate

  • Top Five (5) Players in Classic Lineups: A. Davis (87%) | N. Vucevic (79%) | J. Nurkic (60%) | B. Adebayo (51%) |

    R. Gobert (43%)

  • Charlotte, Chicago, & Utah are playing the tail end of a back-to-back today

  • Detroit & LA Lakers have the least number of games remaining (1)

  • Miami has the most games remaining (3)

  • Day 8 (today) has the least number of teams in action (8)

  • Day 9 & 11 have 20 or more teams in action

  • Every day from here only has one primary objective
