NBA Fast Break Classic | Run 6 | Day 7

Cavs Close Late, Wolves Run Hot, Lakers Steady in New Orleans

NBA Recap: January 6, 2026

Cleveland opened with a 120–116 win over Indiana, a game where the Cavaliers were trailing by nine points going into the final frame, but an 8-0 run pulled Cleveland back into the game. With a little over five minutes to go, they grabbed the lead and never looked back. Washington delivered the night’s surprises, beating Orlando 120–112 by controlling the first half and outscored their opponent by 12 points. A six point swing in the fourth quarter wasn’t enough to save them as they handed the Wizards their 10th win of the year.

Memphis and San Antonio played the tightest game of the night, with the Grizzlies edging the Spurs 106–105 in a finish that came down to a single defensive stand. San Antonio had a chance to steal it late, but Memphis’ interior defense held firm as Santi Aldama blocked De’Aaron Fox’s step back jump shot with five seconds to go, sealing a win they had to grind for possession by possession. Minnesota, meanwhile, delivered the night’s loudest statement, blowing out Miami 122–94 in a game that was effectively over after the 3rd quarter. The only positive on their night was Tyler Herro’s achievement in becoming the sixth fastest player to reach 1,000 three pointers.

The Lakers kept their early‑January momentum rolling with a 111–103 win in New Orleans and their third win a row, leaning on steady scoring and a composed fourth quarter to keep the Pelicans at arm’s length. It wasn’t flashy, but it was professional — the kind of road win that stacks up in the standings. Dallas closed the slate with a 100–98 win over Sacramento, surviving a late Kings push and getting just enough offense in the final minute to escape with a narrow victory.

Fast Break Recap: Day 6

Six days in and we finally reached a day where more than 40% earned a win in Classic as 94% walked away victorious on a day which has a reputation for being a streak breaker. This time, in the opposite sense. Pro and Historic also saw a high win rate, which has been a rare occurrence as of late.

Of the top five players who were utilized yesterday in Classic, Davion Mitchell’s nine assists to no turnovers was the best of the bunch, which earned him the Fast Break Stud of the Day award. Among the other four, none were gross underperformers, which is also an uncommon occurrence this run.
