The Eastern Chaos Deepens — Charlotte Stuns New York and the Play-In Becomes a Three-Way Tie

Detroit wins again (129–108 over NOP). The Pistons are 53–20 and back to taking care of business after back-to-back losses. That OT Atlanta loss feels less alarming now.

Charlotte upsets New York 114–103. This is the biggest result of the night. NYK drops to 48–26 and is now tied with Boston at 48 wins, but they have two more losses. Boston holds the head-to-head edge, so they are in the driver’s seat in attaining the 2nd seed in the East as their chances in catching the Pistons are shrinking. Charlotte, meanwhile, climbs to 39–34 and is firmly in the play-in mix and could leapfrog out of the play-in tournament.

Orlando beats Sacramento 121–117. The Magic move to 39–34 as well, which means Orlando, Charlotte, and Miami are now three teams tied at 39–34 fighting for positioning in the play-in tournament and/or one of the last guaranteed playoff spots. The logjam continues and every game matters.

The East bubble note in yesterday's write-up was prescient — you had six teams in 2.5 games. Now seeds 8–10 are a dead heat and the gap has shrunk to 2.0 games from teams 5-10.

West is stable tonight — no games affecting the top of the standings.
