Three Games, Big Results — Inching Closer to the Finish
Denver Ends San Antonio's 11-Game Streak in OT. The Spurs walked into Ball Arena with an eleven-game winning streak and left with their first loss in nearly a month. Denver won 136–134 in overtime in the best game of the weekend, a back-and-forth battle that went to an extra period before the Nuggets held on. Victor Wembanyama was everything — 34 points, 18 rebounds, 7 assists, 5 blocks, and 16-of-17 from the free-throw line — but the Spurs couldn't close it. Jamal Murray ran Denver's offense with 15 points and 10 assists. Cameron Johnson added 17 on 4-of-8 from three. San Antonio drops to 59-19, now 2.5 games behind Oklahoma City (61-16) with the season ending April 13. That half-game shift changes the math: the Spurs now need to gain three half-games in the final week to claim the top seed, and they don't control it entirely. Denver, meanwhile, has won eight straight and is poised to swipe the 3-seed from the floundering Lakers who just lost Austin Reaves for the season with an oblique injury.
Detroit Clinches the East's Top Seed, 116–93. The Pistons are officially locked in. Detroit jumped out 41-31 in the first quarter and never let Philadelphia back in, winning by 23 to clinch the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference and home court throughout the Eastern conference playoff rounds. Daniss Jenkins orchestrated with 16 points and 14 assists, Tobias Harris added 19 points and 4 steals, and Jalen Duren posted 16 and 7. The Pistons are 57-21 and are now 4.5 games ahead of Boston (52-25) for the conference's best record. For Philadelphia, the loss is significant on two fronts: they fall to 43-35 and drop out of the automatic playoff picture to the No. 7 seed, now sitting on the wrong side of the play-in line. Toronto (43-34) overtakes them for the No. 6 seed on record alone. The Sixers face San Antonio on Monday in a game that suddenly feels like a must-win.
Miami Beats Washington, Remains 10th. The Heat handled the Wizards 152–136 in a Saturday afternoon game that keeps Miami's play-in hopes breathing. They improve to 41-37 at No. 10. The East's play-in picture now has Philadelphia (43-45) at No. 7, Charlotte (42-36) at No. 8, Orlando (41-36) at No. 9, Miami (41-37) at No. 10 — and just two game separating all four and 2.5 separates 6-10. Every result from here matters.
