WNBA Fast Break Classic | Run 10 | Day 1
Today’s Objective(s): 7 Three Pointers Made & 15 Three Point Attempts
Overview:
We have reached the final run of the WNBA Regular Season and was one with ups and downs. Over the first few, there was volatility in the defined objectives, requirements for Pro, and players who stood out based out throughout the season. There are nine days this run like in the previous and the objectives feel more settled. That doesn’t mean easy, but it has been easier than we’ve experienced in the early runs. But earning nine (9) wins is usually elusive for most as there is at least a couple days where an underperformer derails progress.
A new run means a new opportunity to reach that mark and earn that top prize while ranking high on the overall standings. Start things off on the right foot with a win today.
WNBA Score(s): September 2nd
Valkyries Clamp Down Liberty in Defensive Statement (Golden State 66, New York 58)
Golden State delivered a gritty defensive performance to defeat the Liberty 66–58, sweeping the season series 3–0 and tightening their grip on the final playoff spot. The Valkyries held New York to just 8 points in the second quarter and 31.6% shooting overall, while forcing 13 turnovers. Temi Fagbenle led the way in scoring with 16 points and Veronica Burton added 9 assists and 9 rebounds. The Liberty, who entered with a higher win probability, couldn’t find rhythm late and dropped to 24–17, but officially secured their playoff spot. They, however, are currently in 5th overall and are on track to start their title defense on the road in the first round.
Mercury Hold Off Fever in Fourth-Quarter Flurry (Phoenix 85, Indiana 79)
Phoenix extended its win streak to four with a close victory over Indiana, surviving a late push behind Alyssa Thomas’s 23 points and DeWanna Bonner’s 19. Alyssa orchestrated the Mercury’s offense with precision and almost delivered another triple-double as she was a rebound and an assist shy of the mark. Indiana got 29 points from Kelsey Mitchell and 18 from Lexie Hull, but couldn’t overcome Phoenix’s 45.5% shooting and 24 assists. The Mercury improved to 26–14 and tied for 2nd overall, while the Fever fell to 21–20, now trailing Golden State & Seattle with Los Angeles closing in for the final playoff spot with three games remaining.
Today’s Matchups:
Los Angeles Sparks (19-20) @ Atlanta Dream (26-14) | 7:30PM ET | 11:30PM UTC
At Gateway Center Arena, the Atlanta Dream host the Los Angeles Sparks in a matchup that favors the Dream with a 71.8% win probability. Atlanta leads the league in opponent scoring defense, allowing just 77.1 points per game, and will lean on Allisha Gray and Rhyne Howard to set the tone. The Sparks, fresh off a win over Seattle, are riding Dearica Hamby’s hot streak—she’s averaging 19.7 points and 7.9 rebounds over her last ten games. With both teams fighting for playoff positioning, Atlanta’s home-court edge and defensive efficiency make them the projected winner. A win for Los Angeles, however, would inch them closer to Indiana for the final playoff spot.
Connecticut Sun (10-30) @ Chicago Sky (9-30) | 8:00PM ET | 12:00AM UTC
Later at Wintrust Arena, the Chicago Sky face the Connecticut Sun in a near-even contest, with Chicago holding a slight 52.6% win probability. The season series is tied 2–2, and both teams are looking to salvage late-season momentum. Kamilla Cardoso and Angel Reese continue to anchor Chicago’s frontcourt, while Connecticut counters with veteran Tina Charles, who’s been the Sun’s most consistent scorer. With both squads outside the playoff picture, expect a gritty battle—Chicago’s rebounding edge and home energy give them the projected advantage.

Power Rankings (Week 14):
There is a little over a week remaining in the WNBA regular season and things are getting down to the wire and there are two clear battles happening — the first is seeding and the fight for the first round home court advantage and the other is securing a spot in the postseason. Minnesota is the only team that clearly knows their seeding for the playoffs whereas four teams are jockeying for the top three seeds.
There are also four teams pushing to land the three playoff spots with Los Angeles currently on the outside looking in. How they fare in their final five games will determine whether they’ll sneak into the postseason after such a terrible start to the season.
Playoffs Secured: Minnesota, Las Vegas, Atlanta, Phoenix, & New York have punched their ticket to the postseason
Home Court Jockeying: Atlanta, Las Vegas, Phoenix, & New York continue battling for the three (3) home court advantage opportunities
Middle Mayhem: Seattle, Golden State, Indiana, & Los Angeles are fighting for the three (3) remaining playoff spots with Los Angeles currently on the outside looking in
There’s Always Next Season: Washington, Dallas, Connecticut, & Chicago have officially been eliminated
