WNBA Fast Break Classic | Run 1 | Day 5
Today’s Objective(s): 35 Points in the Paint
Recap & Overview:
Storm Secure First Win as Veterans Shine
With only one game on the schedule, the Seattle Storm and Dallas Wings were both searching for their first win of the season. Seattle stormed ahead early, carrying a 15-point halftime lead, but Dallas clawed back in the third, cutting the deficit to just five points heading into the fourth. A Maddy Siegrist layup at the eight-minute mark shrank Seattle’s lead to three, but that was as close as the Wings would get. Seattle responded with an emphatic 8-0 run, pushing their advantage back to double digits and securing their first victory of the year.
Dallas rookie Paige Bueckers continues to impress, leading the Wings with 19 points on 50% shooting and positioning herself as the early frontrunner for WNBA Rookie of the Year. But she was outshined by two Storm veterans—Nneka Ogwumike (23 points, 18 rebounds) and Skylar Diggins (21 points, 9 assists)—who spearheaded Seattle’s balanced attack.
Looking ahead, Dallas faces a tough test against Minnesota tomorrow, where they’re projected to fall to 0-3 on the season. Meanwhile, Seattle won’t take the floor again until May 23rd when they square off against Phoenix.
Fast Break Recap: Objectives & Standouts
For Fast Break, yesterday's objectives focused on Field Goals Made & Steals. Nneka Ogwumike was the most utilized player (84%), dominating both categories as she single-handedly covered 33% of the field goal target and 100% of the required steals, earning her the Fast Break Star of the Day.
Despite her high usage, only 45% of lineups secured a win, suggesting deficiencies in field goals across the board. Arike Ogunbowale, DiJonai Carrington, and Myisha Hines-Allen rounded out the five-most utilized players, but each managed just two field goals made. If your lineup struggled yesterday, take your pick—any of the three could easily earn your Dud of the Day designation.
Today’s Matchups: What to Watch For
Today, there are two games on deck, which tips off at the same time. Las Vegas and Connecticut are both winless, but there is a significant disparity in talent. Look to the Aces to rebound by a big margin over the Sun. In the other matchup, Atlanta will face Caitlin Clark and the Fever. Last season, Indiana won all three games they played against one another and look to repeat that performance this season beginning today.
